Over at CES, Bitdefender has unveiled a new take on its product designed to ensure that your smart home is kept safe from virtual intruders, in this day and age of compromised routers, security cameras and other IoT gadgets being hijacked by the likes of DDoS perpetrators.
The second-generation Bitdefender Box is an IoT security device which defends your home network and all the connected devices therein, from computers to smart TVs, thermostats and light bulbs.
Box makes use of network traffic analysis to maintain your privacy and security, warning against vulnerabilities across all your devices, and it offers enterprise-grade intrusion prevention, inspecting all traffic to (hopefully) spot all manner of attacks and the likes of port scanning activity.
Access control
As well as checking for vulnerabilities, Bitdefender notes that its system will also tell users how to better secure their smart home. It also offers network access control so you can decide who can use your home network, and what privileges they get.
Ciprian Istrate, Vice President Consumer Solutions at Bitdefender, commented: "The number of internet connected devices we own has increased dramatically, so has our exposure to hacker attacks. Now is the time to rethink the way we do cybersecurity before we learn it the hard way."
As well as the hardware itself, you get a Bitdefender Total Security subscription which covers an unlimited number of Windows, macOS or Android devices – for an asking price of $130 (around £105, AU$180).
This launch follows Symantec's new secure Wi-Fi router that we reported on earlier today – it has similar sort of built-in protection measures. Indeed, the increasing panic about Internet of Things security as the number of poorly protected IoT devices spreads is likely to trigger more of these sort of smart home security solutions.

- Pros: Originally the ball made a cheap plastic on plastic grinding feel and noise. After a few days it feels butter smooth.
- Cons: Before this I was using a Logitech Trackman Marble Mouse. I loved that device, it just feels perfect for me. I wanted to give this one a shot for the scroll wheel, which feels disappointingly clunky, cheap, and lets an odd amount of light leak though from the optics if you're in a low light environment. It is almost difficult to keep my hand spread across this whole device.
- Other Thoughts: Trackballs aren't for everyone. From what I've seen around the office, you'll like this style if you like track-pads. If you're looking for something nontraditional but don't like trackpads, maybe look towards a vertical mouse. I'm happy with it for what I paid Cyber Monday, I'd be disappointment if I paid the full 50ish.

- Cons: Too small to be useful
- Other Thoughts: This item does not have any description, and specification not indicate a size. I bought it judging in a photo -- it look like full-size mouse, but in fact it some kind of mini-micro-toy-size [useless thing]. Not useful. Not what I thought I'm buying. Sending back unpacked.

- Pros: Ordered one of these over three years ago, and it's seen very heavy daily usage since then. It's just recently started being a little bit finnicky about the left mouse click (it'll sometimes think I've let go of the button before I actually have, when doing dragging, for instance), but given the usage that's absolutely expected eventually. I've just ordered another as replacement, and another as a hot spare. I'm quite happy with my purchase from three years ago, and expect to remain happy with the next one!
- Cons: n/a
- Other Thoughts: I see some other reviews mention eventual problems 'clicking' with the scrollwheel. I can't speak to that, since I've always disliked clicking with scrollwheels on mice - I always remap the thumb buttons to be my "middle mouse button," and those thumb triggers have continued to work fine for me. The scrollwheel itself has worked fine.

- Pros: Was decent little mouse while it worked. Failed after 3 light uses. Used as a mouse for the kids computer. Stopped working after 2-3 days of installation. Light weight. Decent design. Liked the curves. Decent speed. Worked on three to four surfaces but stopped working.
- Cons: The ps/x interface was a little tight to start with. The mouse does power up but the cursor does not move. Tried power cycling and removing and then adding the mouse back to the computer with no success.
- Other Thoughts: - Would not recommend the product at this point.
- Would not buy this product unless they fix the issues. Decent product for the price point.
- I would increase the reliability of the mouse and change the interface to usb and increase the dpi.

-It feels great in your hand
-Has many clicking features
-Works on Mac and PC - Cons: -After about 1.5 years, the mouse has troubling with clicking and holding that click. It will release clicks randomly and sometimes double click.
-The "metal" paint starts to chip off on the thumb rest area - Other Thoughts: For the price of the mouse I'd really like it to work longer than a year and a half. This double click/click hold issue is really disruptive to my CAD work and general computer functions.

- Pros: I love how it can track on anything, the extra buttons and the insanely awesome almost infinite spin wheel with the gear to switch to notch-at-a-time mode
- Cons: -Dies fairly quick
-GLITCHED OUT AND DOESN'T WORK RIGHT!! I'm a video editor and a vfx compositer. I click and drag things tens of thousands of times. So I only had this thing for about a year before the left click started double clicking every time I'd click once. It became unbearable. I looked up vids of people dusting out the inside since I assumed that was the issue. The little pads on the bottom have to be peeled back to reach the screws. I unscrewed it to look inside and there was only a tiny bit of dust inside. I blew it out and it didn't solve anything. It still double clicks for no reason at all and drives me insane because double clicking in most programs highlights objects. I spent over 70 bucks on this thing and now it's so unbearable I can't use it anymore. - Other Thoughts: Part of me wants to recommend it because based on these other people I can clearly tell it works for most of them. It worked cool for me for a while but now it's practically useless.

- Pros: It's very comfortable in the hand. Surface coatings keep the mouse from feeling greasy or slippery. I like how it can connect to and remember multiple devices. It looks great on my desk!
- Cons: This mouse is a great mouse, just don't purchase it refurbished. Mine arrived in a padded envelope. No cardboard box, no extra padding or any protection. This mouse came in a padded envelope. Two days later, the scrolling detent function in the scrollwheel stopped working and has not worked since.
- Other Thoughts: Buy this mouse new if you're going to get one. Also, don't order it if it's shipping from China. Mine shipped from china to the United States in a padded envelope. It didn't really have a chance.

- Cons: Didn't pay very close attention. Bought 2 and tried on nice refurb HPQ SFF system. They light up but do not work. Found another computer with PS/2 port and they work fine there. Only I use that via USB KVM.

- Pros: Long battery life
2 extra programmable buttons
Great when limited to small desk space or sitting on the couch - Cons: took some effort to get the software working with certain game titles (very few)
Ball suspension nubs wear down and collect Gunk still (long standing issue with this style of mouse) - Other Thoughts: using this mouse over your traditional drag around the desk mouse i've noticed for First person shooter titles and various other Game titles that take place from a first person perspective you can get a lot more control and accuracy out of this mouse. if you ever almost knocked a drink over trying to look right or left and your mouse moving was the culprit, get used to using one of these. to compare it, its the closest you can get between a gamepad and a mouse.
its design is easier on the arms and wrists as well, the extra buttons are easy to reach and can be programmed for multiple uses or left as M4 and M5.
having the unifyer wasn't a huge plus at first but i'm about to buy a extra keyboard that will use it. never had a range problem as my wired keyboard i use has a USB port extender so the unifyer sits right below my mouse at all times. it also lets you know when your battery is at critical levels and as it only needs 1 AA, a pack of 4 will last almost a year. rechargeables help here too.
all in all if you used trackball before i see no new ones being made, my only sadness is that a Gamer model one like a Razor brand Trackball doesn't exist thats decent enough. - Reviewed By:Rodney H.,11/12/2016 6:25:02 PM

That means up to 6 compatible devices off the same tiny dongle (which I just leave in every computer I buy one of these mice for).
